Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old
Islay Scotch Single Malt Whisky
Islay Scotch Single Malt Whisky
Bunnahabhain Distillery is situated at the end of a small single track road, on the shores of the Sound of Islay, Bunnahabhain is known for its spectacular surroundings and delicious signature unpeated Islay Single Malt Whisky. Bunnahabhain is the only distillery on the island to use pure spring water. They source it from the Margadale River and is likely a key factor in their distinctive difference in taste compared to the other Islay whiskies, along with their lack of peat.
Affectionately known by us Aussies as “Bunna” due to our lack of ability to pronounce complicated Scottish words, Bunna is one of my favourite distilleries and the Bunna 12 is an all-time classic.
Islay, Scotland
Delicious earthy malt, vanilla and smouldering oak lead the way, followed by wisps of cumquat, carrot cake and a touch of pepper. As this sits and breathes it continues to evolve and bring out some slightly sour fruity notes like dark plums and unripe mango with a slight twang of sea salt. Incredible.
Creamy mouthfeel, that earthy malty vanilla returns, backed by some clove and allspice and rounded out by some slight woodiness and honey
Medium-long finish with a big hit of chocolate mud cake, malty vanilla and clove. A touch of damp wood comes at the end with a slightly drying finish.
