The Distillery
Barrell Craft Spirits is located in Louisville, Kentucky. They are an independent blender and bottler of unique, aged, cask strength sourced whiskey and rum, recognized for its blending expertise. They select and blend products that explore different distillation methods, barrels and aging environments, and bottle them at cask strength. Every batch is produced as a limited release and has an intentionally distinct flavor profile.

The Whisky Review
Nose 4.5/5
Caramel, vanilla, soft rye spices, sage, bush honey, hazelnuts, pie crust, grass and country air. A subtle background hint of lemongrass and mint linger.
Palate 3.8/5
Creamy mouthfeel, opens intensely sweet with a burst of brandy apples, maple syrup and caramel, before melding into cinnamon scroll, dark chocolate and toasted oak.
Finish 4/5
Long finish, powdered sugar on puff pastry, apple custard danish. Doughy and sweet, baked apples, dark chocolate with a touch of lemon, mint and oak round out the finish.
The Verdict
I love the bottle, it has a great shape, weight and feel to it, although no box is a little disappointing at the pricepoint.
Complex in all aspects, with a super interesting and evolving nose, full of contrasting and delicious notes. This leads into an incredibly creamy mouthfeel and bursting with flavour.
The finish is long and satifsying and completes this well balanced and well thought out Rye Whiskey, brilliant.
Drinks well below its ABV and when i tried this blind i thought it was 45%, so i was off by almost 10%!
The Price
Retailing exclusively at The Whisky List for $225. Those of us who were lucky enough to grab it after the USA Whisky Show in 2021 got it for a great deal at $199, but even at full retail i think its worth it for a top shelf cask strength Rye Whiskey.
